Evidence from intrinsic activity that asymmetry of the human brain is controlled by multiple factors.

چکیده
Cerebral lateralization is a fundamental property of the human brain and a marker of successful development. Here we provide evidence that multiple mechanisms control asymmetry for distinct brain systems. Using intrinsic activity to measure asymmetry in 300 adults, we mapped the most strongly lateralized brain regions. Both men and women showed strong asymmetries with a significant, but small, group difference. Factor analysis on the asymmetric regions revealed 4 separate factors that each accounted for significant variation across subjects. The factors were associated with brain systems involved in vision, internal thought (the default network), attention, and language. An independent sample of right- and left-handed individuals showed that hand dominance affects brain asymmetry but differentially across the 4 factors supporting their independence. These findings show the feasibility of measuring brain asymmetry using intrinsic activity fluctuations and suggest that multiple genetic or environmental mechanisms control cerebral lateralization.

Robot control system using SMR signals detection
One of the important issues in designing a brain-computer interface system is to select the type of mental activity to be imagined. In some of these systems, mental activity varies with user intent and action that must be controlled by the brain-computer system, and in a number of other signals, the received signals contain the same activity-related mental activity that should be performed by t...
متن کاملCentral and Metabolic Effects of High Fructose Consumption: Evidence from Animal and Human Studies
Fructose consumption has increased dramatically in the last 40 years, and its role in the pathogenesis of the metabolic syndrome has been implicated by many studies. It is most often encountered in the diet as sucrose (glucose and fructose) or high-fructose corn syrup (55% fructose). At high levels, dietary exposure to fructose triggers a series of metabolic changes originating in the liver, le...
متن کاملThe zoning of the relative morphotectonic activity of the Kan-Soleghan basin with an emphasis on the location of the Tehran-North Freeway tunnel
The Kan-Soleghan basin is located on the southern Hillside of the Alborz, which has affected the Alp-Himalayan active zone over time. In this respect, the evaluation of active tectonic processes and their effects on many human activities, such as the design and construction of cities, powerhouse, dams, industrial facilities are of great importance. The passage of the Tehran-North Freeway Tunnel...

Purpose: Because walking is the main activity of humans for movement, many research studies have been conducted to understand its details. One of the main issues in this regard is gait symmetry and the effect of various factors on it. Accordingly, the present study aimed to review the selected factors affecting gait symmetry. Methods: A literature review was performed on articles published fro...
متن کاملSelective deficits in human audition: evidence from lesion studies
The human auditory cortex is the gateway to the most powerful and complex communication systems and yet relatively little is known about its functional organization as compared to the visual system. Several lines of evidence, predominantly from recent studies, indicate that sound recognition and sound localization are processed in two at least partially independent networks. Evidence from human...
